I used ORID framework for our MJC study today

We began with prayer, worship and review of memory verses

Graffiti board
Graffitti Board: How Has MJC Been For You?
Not so easy to get people to come up and scribble on graffitti board
Better response by distibutin postits and asking them to write and stick on.

Give me a greater desire to emulate Jesus.
Help me to realise that I have not really served the way the Lord wants me to.
Taught me to be a good disciple of Jesus.

MJC has helped me to be more regular with my bible reading and has disciplined me.
Now able to read at least two chapters each day.
Hope to continue this every day of my life.

God is speaking to me through His word as I study it, try to understand it and ponder what it means for my life.

This week, we read about Jesus as the bread of life. Jesus asks us to feed on Him- to depend on Him totally for spiritual sustenance and growth, to embrace Him and His word until they become a part of us.

The message is simple: God so loved the world that He gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.

Enables me to study the gospels in greater earnest.
to think and look at the scriptures from a different perspective using the guide notes provided.

Weekly reminder/ daily reminder in following Jesus.
Knowing Jesus in a personal way, trying to understand His thoughts behind His words and actions.

Has reminded me a lot how Christ treated every human being.
The "poor "and "lowly" and "outcast" need Jesus as much as and even more.

Assured and reassured me that WITH GOD NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE-YES
only WITH HIM.
Reminds me to always LOOK TO GOD whenever tempted- He will surely guide me to make wise decisiosn.
His word helps me to have courage to share boldly and uphold each other
to pray believing with faith in him.

To stand on every promise of His word
knowing and being assured taht His promise is YES in CHRIST 2 Cor 1:20

I am a work-in-progress. Jesus isnt done with me yet nor with the people around me.
I  must exercise more compassion and learn to be a servant like Jesus.

Understanding parables: (Deeper meaning and relevance)

Seriousness of Jesus
Teachings and the grace to be chosen
All will hear but ony a few will be chosen.

Challenging to find time to read bible carefully.
Good experience to read 2-3 chapters a day, through the gospels.
Makes me hungry for the word.

Readingthe Bible daily is important.
Once you started you seem to have a date with God.
If you miss that date you will feel like something is missing for the day.

Jesus came and turned all the assumptions and preconceptions of the Jews upside down.
John 1:4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.
+John 10:10 I came that you might have life and have it abundantly .
Let Jesus be the life and light of my life.

Eagerness to know more about the word of God
Discipline to raed the bible daily
Better understanding of the parables.

The text John 10:1-17
In our lesson book the text is divided into 4 paragraphs

Participants were allocated to 4 subgroups and tasked to identify relationships within the text:
"who does what to whom"

Small groups working out the answers.

The responses of the four groups were presented and understood as the objective facts from the text

One group presenting ....

Preflective phase: participants then were asked to brainstorm: what were their feelings towards the facts as they reviewed and understood these findings

Each of the groups was given 4 of the emotive responses and asked to explain and elaborate why this reflection occurred

Based on these, groups were then asked to make decisions: how would they want to respond: what decisions would they make; how would this passage effect transformation in their lives,

MJC28 March 23 2014 Compassion

Great sermon today
Rev Dr Kow Shih Ming
Text John 4:1-26
The compassion of Jesus

Be not only hearers
but doers
of the word.

Who do you see?
when you come across foreign workers?
church cleaners?

the woman at the well
sychar
samaria

ostracised
social outcast
smaritan
woman
questionable reput
dubious past

BUT who did Jesus see?
some one with need
needed love
need someone to lead her to life
some one who needs a saviour

Jesus had compassion
heal the sick
give sight to the blind
raise the dead

Lost People need shepherd to
lead them to
still waters
 green pastures
 restore their soul
lead them to righteousness

Who do you see
when you meet a foreign worker?
foreign domestic worker?

those around you
volunteer ushers
church cleaner?

How does Jesus see them?

How to develop compassion in your eyes?
How to grow heart of compassion?
A) Let God's love fill your heart
B) Let your heart be broken

A) Let God's love fill your heart
Romans 5:5
"God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,"

You cant do life on your own
You need to surrender your keys to Jesus.
Your past: no matter how bad and ugly
Your future: Wherever he will lead
Your present: Just follow him.

But some hold on to
the hurts of the past
Hurt people hurt people!
They need healing.
Ask Jesus to heal you
Tell someone about your pain.

B) Let your heart be broken
If your heart does NOT break
God's love can only ooze out
if it is broken,
God's love can flow out.

Bob Pierce: World Vision
Let my heart be broken by the things that break God's heart

How do you let your heart be broken?
By coming face to face with the needs of the world
Begin to serve.

Compassion is not just a feeling
Compassion is seeking to change

Are you willing to let your heart be broken?

Connect with a real need

Learn their name
Learn their story
That is someone that Jesus gave his life for

Now is our turn
to be moved in compassion
commit to at least one serving  opportunity
Begin to allow your heart to be broken

If you are already serving
Get to know their nams
Get to know their stories

If you have not yet given your life to Jesus, you can do so today
